Retirement in Mind

An avid outdoorsman, Bob’s ideal vision for retirement included a rugged, mountain home built on a unique piece of property where he would have easy access to his two favorite hobbies; small game hunting and fishing. Keeping this image in mind, he traveled from California to Colorado in search of a quiet place he could build his future home on. Traveling just outside of the busy streets of Denver, Bob fell in love with the quaint and welcoming appeal of Evergreen. It was on a hill, in view of distant mountain peaks and overlooking the town that he found the location where he could see his vision come to life.

Inspired by the Truckee

Once Bob found his lot, he started looking for a design and a premiere log home company that could take his dream of an authentic wood home and make it a reality. After searching through several companies and floor plans, he came across the Truckee, a rustic design concept by PrecisionCraft’s design firm, M.T.N Design. Bob liked how the Truckee’s single level floor plan encouraged socialization with open main living spaces, while still retaining the privacy of the bedroom areas. Its log post and beam structure created the rustic charm he wanted, without overwhelming its cozy cabin appeal. Once he had his concept to gather inspiration from, he set to work with his designer, customizing the design to fit his retirement lifestyle.

Room for Company

Bob wanted to build this log home to not only facilitate his retirement years, but to accommodate his children’s families as well. By increasing the home’s square footage, he was able to accommodate guest spaces so that his children living in the Denver area would have a place to retreat to on weekends and holidays. Wanting to integrate his love for the outdoors into his design layout, he expanded the back patio and included an outdoor living space, accessible through the kitchen. Bob also worked with his designer to incorporate a basement into his sloped lot. By doing so, he was able to add specialty spaces like a theatre room, second guest suite, and game room.

Bob’s dream log home retreat is now under construction and is expected to be completed by the end 2013. Watch for the second part of this exciting series, coming soon!
