You’ve even pictured yourself in these homes, next to a roaring fire, peering out that great room window. But what if that unseen view did not showcase the unique landscape that caused you to purchase your land in the first place? This is why your design team should understand this and identify your view corridors before you begin the design process.
Visiting Your Land
Every homeowner’s land is unique, and most have multiple vistas they want to take advantage of. Because each location is one-of-kind, it is important to assess and discuss the desires you have for your home’s view corridors. Perhaps you have a view that you would love to wake up to and look out on from your master bedroom, or you have a designated setting for your outdoor living space. There is never just one window in a home, but multiple, with many opportunities for different views. The process of discovering your views goes beyond just the placement of your great room windows, the designers will create rooms throughout the home based on your primary and secondary corridors as well. If you have a corridor different from your main view that you can envision seeing from the breakfast table in your dining room, its location in your floor plan will be planned accordingly. As opposed to areas like a mudroom that either has no windows or a view is not expected there and can be placed anywhere within your plans. Your designer will make sure to incorporate rooms like this into spaces that will not obstruct or ignore a view corridor.
There are other site factors that can affect the positioning and design of your plan. Sun exposure, roads, and landscapes work in conjunction with determining your view corridors. For instance, if your desired main view corridor is on a section of the property that receives a lot of light, you will have to work with your designer to determine how to keep those views while reducing sun exposure.
