"Setting Down Roots"

Log Home Living, August 1998

When David and Lynne Comstock decided the time was right to build their dream house, they had done their homework, but log homes were not new to them. In fact, you could say log homes are a part of their family heritage. Their appreciation of the old-fashioned log cabin began back when they were children. We both grew up with family cabins, Lynne says. Both of our families had log cabins built in the early 1900s in the area of Island Park, Idaho.

A few years ago they saw a log cabin in a magazine and liked the design so much they kept the pictures and floorplans. Although the Comstocks make their home in Boise, where Daves an attorney, they found their ideal dream home site in the woods near McCall, about 2 1/2 hours away by car. The trip offers a scenic drive along the Payette River to Spring Mountain Ranch, a development where they chose to build. It was a good choice for the whole family, with recreational opportunities like swimming, tennis, skiing and golf nearby.
