Our Approach to Building Green Log Homes

At PrecisionCraft and M.T.N Design our primary goal has always been to provide you with the absolute best log or timber frame home design. This means a design that meets your layout specifications, design aesthetics, site requirements and overall budget. This is absolutely still our approach. We view the emersion of green building technologies as an additional tool we can utilize in helping you to reach your log home design goals.

But what does "green" really mean? Green can mean sustainable, healthy, natural, energy-efficient or environmentally friendly (just to name a few). In short, green means something different to everyone. As part of our overall design service we will help you to completely understand your green building options. Then you will decide if incorporating any of these solutions is right for your timber frame or log home project.

Green Design Opportunities

M.T.N ArchitectsMany of our clients have been incorporating green building elements into their log and timber frame homes for years. They just didn't think of it that way. Adding elements like radiant heating, structurally insulated panels, skylights, or low-emittance windows was a choice of comfort or a desire for efficiency.

Today there are many new products and services that, in addition to being labeled green, can add to the comfort and health of your custom log home. We can help you understand how these solutions might fit with your overall design.

Green Certified Log and Timber Frame Homes

LEED Logo

Each of our M.T.N's designers is studying to become LEED® Accredited Professionals (LEED AP). According to the Green Building Certification Institute, a LEED AP is a person that demonstrates a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and is familiar with the LEED Green Building Rating System.

The LEED Accreditation program is the most rigorous green building training in the United States. This means that not only can we help a client reach LEED certification of their log home or timber home, but we can also assist clients who are attempting to gain Energy Star qualification, achieve National Green Building Certification (through the NAHB) or meet the requirements of an alternative program.
