When Should You Start the Design Process?

The journey toward building your custom mountain style home can span years. During that time, a lot of things can change, including: your needs, the economy and the building industry. For those reasons, the design process can't really begin until your are about one year from when you want to start construction. That doesn't mean there isn't work to be done. Find out what you should be doing in the years before you start the design process.

Gather Photos and Inforation

Building over 4 Years Out (Gather)

This is the time to gather general information and ideas.

  • Understand how much it will cost to build
  • Gather photos, plans and illustrations that could inspire your own design
  • Call and email with questions - get a better idea of what is possible by speaking to experts
Attend a Home Planning Seminar

Building within 2-3 Years (Refine)

Now is the time to refine your project expectations.

  • Talk in depth with your representative about specific project goals - via phone and email
  • Attend a seminar or visit one of our plants
  • Purchase land (if you haven't already)
  • Speak with a financial consultant about budget
Site Visit and Design Meeting

Building within 1- 2 Years (Explore your Site)

The design process starts with a review of your site.

  • Meet with your client representative at your site
  • Designate view corridors on your property
  • Gather topography maps and any other documentation needed to understand your site
  • Schedule your Initial Design Meeting
