The Wood River- Many Locations, Many Variations

This month, we take a look at how a blend of Craftsman design and mountain style design have inspired couples across North America to build their own version of the Wood River design concept. Mixing traditional Craftsman style elements like low sloping roof pitches, banded windows and deep overhangs with square log walls and timber trusses, the Wood River is one of our most talked about designs.

Colorado Wood River Title

Wood River in Colorado

Building on 260 acres of ranch land in Colorado City, this client knew right away that the Wood River concept was the perfect compliment to his property. In fact, most of the original concept's layout is retained in this Colorado home, with plans made for a basement and additional bedrooms in the future.

Plan Alteration Highlights:

  • Redesigned from log walls and a timber frame roof to Mountain Accent®
  • Added plans for a future basement

Alberta Hybrid Wood River Title

Wood River in Alberta

This Alberta couple chose the Wood River concept for the unique roof lines and beautiful timber trusses. While they wanted their home to embody this exterior look and feel, they chose to completely customize the plan's interior layout to better fit their way of life.

Plan Alteration Highlights:

  • Added almost 1,700 sq.ft. in the form of a basement and second level
  • Expanded the master suite

Vermont Wood River Title

Wood River in Vermont

When the Wood River concept was first introduced, this couple could instantly picture the design on their lush property. With a few alterations - the inclusion of a screened porch, theater room, and reading room, the couple was able to match the home to their interests.

Plan Alteration Highlights:

  • Expanded by 650 sq.ft. to incorporate a theater room off of the kitchen
  • Extended and pivoted the garage 45 degrees to create a mud room

Wyoming Wood River Title

Wyoming Wood River

As their second home, this North Carolina couple chose the Wood River concept to compliment the feel of their western Wyoming location. Having uninterrupted mountain views they wanted to enjoy, both inside and out, their designer included ample outdoor living space and oriented the design to capture these vistas.

Plan Alteration Highlights:

  • Increased floor plan by 1,000 sq.ft. and included a multi-purpose room
  • Redesigned from hybrid to timber frame
