One of our most meaningful long-term partnerships began over a decade ago with Jon and Monica. Retired from careers in retail, they share a love for travel, fine wines, their beloved “fur babies,” and refined rustic architecture. What started as a search for a mountain getaway became a journey that resulted in not one, but two distinct, award-winning timber frame homes.

The Client’s First Home: An Award-Winning Mountain Sanctuary

- Project Size: 3,034 sq. ft.

Jon and Monica’s journey with PrecisionCraft began in 2013 after attending one of our open houses. They were captivated by the craftsmanship and began envisioning a timber frame sanctuary that would harmonize with the rugged beauty of the Cle Elum River Valley.
The result? A 3,034-square-foot mountain cottage that would later be honored as the 2019 Timber Home of Distinction by the NAHB Building Systems Councils.
A Modest Masterpiece
Rather than pursuing a sprawling estate, Jon and Monica sought a thoughtfully scaled “mountain cottage”—comfortable, practical, and buildable within a defined budget. Lead Architect Matt Franklin of M-T-N Design embraced the challenge.
- The Design: The layout revolves around open spaces and abundant natural light. A strong ridge line running left to right allowed the home to maximize usable space on a sloped site, creating a functional walk-out basement while preserving architectural balance.
- The Layout: The main level (1,600 sq. ft.) features an entry, great room, dining, and a primary suite. Monica’s favorite feature? The kitchen. “Anyone that has guests over knows that people never leave the kitchen,”she says with a laugh. We ensured the space was as functional for ten people as it is for two.
- The Lower Level: Far from a dark basement, the lower level is filled with natural light, housing two bedrooms and a dedicated craft room for Monica’s quilting club.
- The Aesthetic: With oak floors, beetle-killed pine ceilings, and a massive stone wall in the great room, the home blends effortlessly into the woods. Monica’s “keep-it-simple” approach to decorating, letting the finishes and the views speak for themselves, resulted in a home being featured in Timber Home Living and Cowgirl Magazine.

The Client’s Second Home: Custom Modern Rustic in Oregon
- Location: Brasada Ranch, Outside of Bend, Oregon
- Project Size: 3,584 sq. ft.
- Style: Timber Frame
- Floorplan: 100% Custom Design
In 2021, Jon and Monica returned to PrecisionCraft—proof that trust and craftsmanship endure. Their lifestyle had evolved, and they were ready for a second residence near Bend, Oregon.
Unlike their first home, which modified an existing plan, this project was fully custom. Designed by PrecisionCraft’s in-house architectural design team,Tim Brock of M-T-N Design, the home reflects a more complex, modern-rustic aesthetic.
Designed Around Sophisticated Topography
Situated on a lot with dramatic terrain and existing vegetation, including a striking old-growth tree, the design team carefully positioned the structure to preserve natural features and maximize views.
- Mountain Vistas: The floor plan was innovatively designed to frame “view corridors” of the Three Sisters and the entire mountain range.
- Modern Rustic: While the first home was a classic mountain cottage, the second home leans into a more complex, modern-rustic aesthetic. It features a “corridor experience” on the south side with a wall of glass and dual covered decks—one for the sunrise and one for the sunset.
- Premium Finishes: The exterior features fire-rated weathered shake, corrugated rustic metal, and Douglas Fir timbers.
- The Specs: At 3,584 sq. ft., the home includes two secondary en-suites, an adjacent office space, a 1,400 sq. ft. covered deck, and an oversized 3-car garage.
